On 16 December 2015 Toastmasters of Basel held the last meeting of 2015. It was a fun Christmas themed event with Celia Rohland as a Sergent in Arms exceeding all expectation with a spread of seasonal home-made refreshments supplemented by the wonderfully decorated chocolate cupcakes brought to the club by one of the guests Iriny Shanouda. Three prepared speeches were delivered by Motoi Hosoe, on his first Basel City run, followed by Celia, on a success of the recent Climate Change Conference in Paris and a very enjoyable educational speech by Janene Liston on the history of the Toastmasters club. Sabine Schmelzer Table Topic contest linked the climate change topic presented by Celia with how we could personally contribute to reducing our energy footprint with re-thinking our sometimes excessive Christmas extravaganza.
The Club’s President, Miao Gerhard, established a new tradition this year with two new awards – Best Newcomer and Most Supportive club member. The club voted Motoi Hosoe as the Best Newcomer in 2015.
